Progress is progress, regardless of how timely or fast it happens.

Congrats, bud. Things are looking awesome! ;-)

    Another update:

The drain doesn't seem to be operating smoothly. It seems that water backs up in it then whooshes down. Symptoms:

    - It seems to get worse at lower flow
    - The tank water level does not change
    - The sump level does change

My thoughts are that with the large amount of pipe volume and drop that there is not enough air getting into the drain and a partial vacuum is forming.

We're going to try and install a vent in the drain on the outside of the house and see what that does. Right now it is somewhat annoying.

Your thoughts and fix sounds about right. How much of an elevation change is there from the DTs drains to the sump? I'm guessing 20+ feet? Thats alot of momentum for water to create a vacuum.

I think it's about 18 feet from the point the pipes exit the house to the top of the sump. The top of the display tanks are another 7. So yeah, it goes way down :)

Off the top of my head - Perhaps a larger durso standpipe kind of thing could help?

That was my thought initially, but wouldn't that add noise at the tanks? So my thought paralleled rocketman's, add the break somewhere externally away from the tanks. Don't know, I've never had the priviledge of setting up dual 175 gals. ;D

I imagine it might at the tank level with that scale. Worth exploring I think. Your idea is interesting.

looking at the dsesign of the setup i would cut the pipe in 2 sections 5-7 feet apart outside the house add in 2 tees with 1/2 inch pvc ran on the outside of the return twards the sky and end the pipe above the tank height to bring in air you will need it high just in case you get a rush of flow it may spill over and cause the ATO to cycle and lower the SG

its hard to explain what im invisioning . in a sence would give each 5-7 foot section its own air supply via the 1/2 inch air supply if done with street elbows it wouldent look weard .
i would think trying to tune a durso would be a pita at them heights not to mention the noise i think the only way to beet the noise is to make it outside where no one would care about it

I understand what you're saying, but why is the second vent necessary?
