This is my first attempt at setting up a rockscape, please let me know what you think before I add the sand. Too much rock? Not enough? Just right? For the time being its going to be a FOWLR tank as this is my first saltwater tank. After I get comfortable with keeping all the levels balanced I'll start to add a few corals. Its a 120g DT. Thanks!

Nice amount and looks great I would try and push the rock closer to the back. I want most the action in front. Cation though, if you push it too close to the back you might loose too surface water flow and create dead spots. this is just one mans opinion...

I agree with muecyl. Try arranging the rock so you have more of a slope with the rock highest in the back and lowest in the front. That way you maximize swimming room in the front. The way it is currently arranged your fish will be hanging out in back half the time. Just my opinion.

Those are really nice rock pieces.

I like it but you will have a similar problem that I have. It's too vertical of a wall for easy coral placement. (if that's you're plan)

Nice rocks but personally too much for my liking. You have to think in future tense...

Placing rocks in the middle of the tank can cause a couple of problems:
First is possible avalaches that can crack the glass.
Second is your fish will not be where you can see them.

You are going to be adding corals that grow bigger than you might think. Once they are latched onto a rock or multiple rocks it's hard to move them.

You want to place the rocks so you can easily clean the three sides with a magnetic cleaner or stick. I placed my rock at a level that allows room at the top for water changes.

You want to build your rockscape in tears with rocks thinning out as they go up so the corals can latch on better and the snails can't easily knock them to the bottom of the tank. Caves for fish to easily roam in and out are good if you can do so.

I allow at least 2" on the sides and 4" to 6" in the front for swimming room. Fish and corals all grow bigger so allow for that and you'll be happier with the end result. Take a look at the displacement in my tank. Good luck!:cheesy:

i will start by sayong opinions are like a******s. so since you asked i agree with a lot of the above comments.

if you plan to stay fowler then it will be ok. fish might hide in the back but that is a risk you take for a cool scape like that. those are fantastic looking rocks and part of me is jealous of them.

however as said if you plan to do coral you may want to rethink it a little and make some good room for them. that said it is hard to get a accurate picture of depth in a picture so we may be missing some of the fine aspects.

remember this though if you like it and are happy it is PERFECT.

Thanks for the tips. I've rebuilt it, pushed it all the way back, but still room for fish to get back there and added holes for my two Koralia 4s to pump behind the rock. Also added a few rocks that jut out and some tiers for placement of coral in the future. Probably not going to have a lot of coral in the future, but there is definitely room for it now. Filled it with sand too, so its nice and cloudy. I'll take some more pictures once its cleared up.

Most of that rock is the Pukani dry rock from Bulk Reef Supply. Its awesome rock! Highly recommended! Only downside was mine didn't come in fully "dead." I had to nuke it and clean off some stuff.

Nice looking rock! I agree with the above comments, pushing it to the back will help. Make sure it's balanced so that when you put in snails they can't bulldoze the pieces and knock the top ones over. Take some pics of your revised setup :)
