Out here in AZ we keep our house at 80. That's comfortable for all of us here cuz it's 110+ outside. My tank stays between 80-80.5, t-5 lights, external pump and my skimmer pump is in sump. I know most people keep their tanks more in the range of 76-78. Any problems being 80-81? I've read some reefs in nature get that warm or warmer sometimes.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Yes I live in the desert as well and I run a chiller and keep the tank at 82 F with no problems. My chiller would run non stop if I tried to run the temp any lower and the air conditioning is set at 78 degress, but I am running a closed system with mh.

Well, I have a complicated setup, thanks to Red Sea's engineering prowess.

I have a false wall in the back of my tank. Behind there, there's a Sicce skimmer pump, which I don't know the rating of. Also, there's a 700GPH Maxijet, and a 320 GPH Hydor, which are returns back to the DT area. There's also an overflow back here, down to the fuge.

In the fuge (technically the sump, lowest point on the system), I have a 400gph return, Maxijet 1200 for the GFO/Carbon reactor, and a pump that turns on for a couple minutes a night to get some flow in the fuge, hopefully getting pods up into the water column and into the DT.

I also have a Koralia 400gph in the DT portion itself.

So, I do definitely have a lot of pumps in general lol. The only one in the tank itself, though, is the Koralia, so I guess I have either 2.0048611, 3 or 6 pumps in the sump, depending on how you're defining "sump" and how you count the pump that's not always on.

You're actually supposed to get better coral growth most of the time at the slightly higher temps. I keep mine at 80.

Or, rather, my pumps do ;D

When I was cycling my tank with all of the equipment I watched the temp (luckily I cycled during the summer) - recorded the hottest temp I saw (about 80.5 F) and set the heater accordingly so that at night it keeps a steady 80.0 - 80.5 depending on your location in the tank (I set up 2 digital thermometers to measure variation).... I don't use my AC or heat so this method worked for me.
