I picked up a Rose BYA several months ago. He did quite well for the first 3-4 weeks with my false perc, mating to him right away. Fed him a small piece of shrimp twice a week and he seemed happy. Then one day I woke to find that he had hidden himself deep in the rocks. He did not come out for many many weeks and started to loose his color. His little tenticles all but disappeared and he says very small. Just noticed today that he has split in two!?!? Still hiding though. Just another note, it was very difficult to feed him the past few months. Any Suggestions on getting him to come out again?

Just about the only thing you can do is move the rock he is on, although I'm not sure I would recommend it. It can stress him out more, and he will just go wherever he wants anyway. I have heard that when a BTA is stressed sometimes it will divde as a means of survval (the chances of 1/2 surviving is better than 0/1). Don't want to sound alarmst, but ths change in behavor s troubling. Where is he hiding? s he stll gettng light and water flow? These answers would help in tryng find a solution.

    Good Luck,

    Aaron

Well he is definitly not getting enough light, hiding under rocks, etc. Water flow isn't a problem in such a small tank...at least I dont think so. This all started when i put my green hammer corrals in, and I think that I read somewhere that they dont get along in small tanks after they were introduced. It may be possible that they the hammer is stinging the rose and its hiding.
One time I tried to move it but couldn't get it off the rock. Moving the rocks is, unfortunately, not an option...
