Hello all, so I got my first DEEP Rose color BTA 5 days ago. An amazing creature to say the least. It so interesting because I have 4 clowns with a good amount of other huge corals such as torches, elegance's, etc. For approx. 4 months, they never went near them for any hosting. Once the Rose was put in, (which stayed put btw) after 3 days, the clowns started getting closer and closer to the Rose. Well after a week they are diving into the Rose like Olympic divers! ;D One of the larger Clowns beds down in the Rose like he's dead! Very scary when I first saw this.

So my question is about feeding the Roses. I've read so much about feeding and not feeding? I have also read that the clowns will actually feed the Rose as well? So the jury is still our for me, do I feed my 4"-6" Rose when fully opened with Silversides, Mysis, etc. or does the Clowns take care of this nowadays? I have never seen them do this except at times I do see them dive in to the Roses mouth? Also, how often do I feed? I've also read every day, to every other day, to once a week.

Also, my Rose never really blows up his bubbles, they kinda inflate, but they are small in diameter, not like I see in most pictures, but he does open up quite wide and looks fantastic. Is he hungry? Just trying to get some real world feedback here. Of course I do NOT wish to sky rocket my Nitrates with Silversides as well. Thanks all!

I feed mine BTA's frozen mysis 1-2 times a week. The clowns feed them occasionally too.

I feed mine krill, every other day. Since I have a large maroon female and a small maroon male, it needs to be large to tolerate both of them rubbing and hosting on it. The anemone itself gets its food from the light, well the zooxanthellae photosynthesis process, but that's a whole different discussion, but the zooxathellae needs food itself to produce the food for the anemone, which is where manual feeding comes in.
My maroons were captive bred, so they don't know better to feed the anemone. They take food away from it! I but a krill into the tentacles and the anemone will draw it into its mouth. I'll cover it up so the fish can't steal the food away and will keep a net over it until the food is completely drawn in where the maroons can't stick their faces in and remove it.

    Thanks for the advice!

A few days ago, fed the Rose BTA it's first 1/2 of a Silverside. Closed up around it immediately and in a few minutes, it appeared to be gone!

Nice looking BTA. Glad your clowns are hosting it.

Your clowns will likely feed it if the pieces are large enough. If they are small they will probably just eat the food themselves.

Here is a video of my clown fighting for a piece of shrimp to feed it to his BTA.

    Thanks!

My daughter and I took it because her High School teacher insisted that the clown fish/anemone relationship was not symbiotic because she didn't think the clown actually fed the anemone. The video scored my daughter some extra credit points.

I fed mine about a 1/2 silverside about every 5-6 days. It was hosted by a pair of clowns...
