After 6 months of sitting in the same spot, one of my rose BTA clones decided that it wanted a new place to live. Somehow, it managed to get into an overflow, travel through a u-tube, get sucked in one of my stockman pipes through a 1/2" hole, got spat out into my sump, avoided the skimmer pump, and squeezed through the baffle between the input and refugium section of the sump. Needless to say, the poor thing is all kinds of beat up and is in at least 2 pieces now. Both of the pieces look healthy, but have no mouth or orderly shape to them. I'm wondering if I should remove them, or would they be able to generate a new mouth and digestive system if left alone in the refugium?

I once had a BTA go through a powerhead and one little piece managed to survive and regenerate. That being said, keep a close eye on the pieces. If they start to grow into new anemones, great. If they start to melt, chuck `em :)

Sounds like a plan. Wonder if I should give them some beer? ;)

    You lucky dog you

Start with a $60 animal, mishap, end with $120 worth of animal. Pretty neat. BTA's need lots of good light, so better make sure they have that and good feeding to assist in recovery eh?:p

Hehe, the original BTA was a $30 purchase as it was dodgy to begin with. Today, it's close to the size of a dinner plate and has split once already. Now, there are 3 in all including the ones in my refugium. Once the new copies have mouths, I plan to give them each a nice chunk of Zoe marinated deli shrimp!

I wouldn't feed the "pieces" of BTA just yet as it takes the animal a heck of a lot of energy to feed and expel waste and the pieces need that energy now to rebuild. If you feed phytoplankton to your tank, the BTA pieces will have plenty to eat.

No phytoplankton here, but they are in my refugium which is absolutely teaming with mysis shrimp and various pods. I'm sure there is plenty to eat in there.

I used to dose phyto but decided that my system didn't need the excess phosphates.
