Ok Here's the deal. A guy at a LFS told me that Rose BTAs are, and I quote, "completely reef-safe". Now, by hearing this I nearly went into shock.

"You mean to tell me that I'm measuring the space around my LR to fill the area trying to divide my tiny little 10 gal tank into 2 areas for nothing? That my plans of separating my few coral frags from the future RBTA with a massive wall of LR is useless?" I ask as I mildly recuperate from the shock and I start to feel my blood pressure rise along with my temper.

The guy just stands there grins and knods. An echoing "Yep" pours out of his mouth and I feel I'm about to lose it. And as I walk out the door the guy says that its only Rose BTA and that it isn't that way with any other BTA.

At this point I pause, because I wonder if it might be true, and the guy CHALLENGES ME! He tells me to go LOOK IT UP!

    GRRRRRR! [smiley=furious3.gif]

So I leave and I [smiley=book2.gif] and Nothing! So I turn to [smiley=computer.gif], I found nothing on Wetwebmedia and now I'm posting here hoping that the great minds of 3reef can give me some guidance. IF HE IS RIGHT I SWEAR TO BUY THE ROSE BTA FROM HIM NO MATTER THE COST, otherwise that will be the last time I enter that store.

    Please help.

I have a BTA (not rose) and i only had one problem when he wondered into my herd of Xenia. He lost (bad), hid in a cave for a week and has taken his normal spot. I though he was done for but he full size again. I have seen many photo's of tanks with coral and BTA.

A BTA is a BTA!  Entacmaea quadricolor is the genus and species for all colors of BTA.  The difference in coloring comes from the pigment of the xoanthallea.

This is a quote from http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?siteid=23&pCatId=869 regarding the Rose BTA they have on sale for $99 at this moment:

"Handle this invertebrate, and all Anemones, with care. They can sting other Anemones, as well as Corals."

Your LFS guy is on drugs or pulling your leg!

As long as the BTA or RBTA, which are the same thing, do not touch any corals they should be fine in a reef tank, but there is a possibility they could move around and sting your corals. Your LFS guy has lost it.

my response is yes and no to reef safe yes they are reef safe no they are not reef safe, they can move and sting so not reef safe but once settled and not moving reef safe. Clear as Mud?? my point is use caution and place in general area that you want it and hope it stays. As far as the not safe stinging thing do you know what the defenses and range of all your corals are? alot of hobbists have to try and see with some corals (yours truly included) because there can be many situations that the coral you introduce will do battle with its tank mates, so does that mean corals are not reef safe?
