my mother-in-law is from the Netherlands and is constantly on the phone with her siblings babbling about in Dutch. it's important to her that she keeps a little part of the Netherlands in her life even though she's been in the US for many years. my wife and i thought it would be a neat surprise if we learned dutch together and planned a trip overseas for next year.

my question is, has anyone here ever tried the rosetta stone software? what were the experiences, good or bad or if you have any better suggestions.

Michael Phelps endorses it and since he shares my first and last name I'd say you can trust him. LOL

I've always wanted to get it and learn more spanish but it's to costly for my budget. I hear good things all the time.

I'm interested to see what people say. I studied French for 5 years and would love to brush back up on it.

compared to the $600 a credit i paid to learn two languages that no one speaks anymore (koine greek and ancient hebrew) if i can get the three levels off ebay for less than 500, ill think that i'm getting a steal. it's all relative

My old company sells a similar product from a company called strokes international. Cheaper than Rosetta Stone and seems to have great ratings. Strokes-international.com

I was going to comment that you were too young to remember the rosetta stone. ;)

I have been thinking of using the rosetta stone SW to learn Spanish. I mean more than the "get food, get drunk, find the bathroom and get beat up" Spanish that I know.

Languages are much easier to learn when you are young.

I started taking German in the 6th grade. I was an exchange student to Germany in HS, and took German all though my extra long college career.

German is a very tough language to learn, unless you live in Germany for 2.5 years I highly doubt one could say they have mastered it.
