Do Royal Gramma's usually hide a lot? I just got one for my tank and placed him in there and have only seen him once since. I saw him hiding in a rock crevice, but thats about it. Doesn't seem to come out for feedings or anything...is this normal?

Also, any suggestions on the name for the Royal Gramma, trying to maintain the political theme.

    Thanks,
    Mike

how long have you had it? It will probably hide for a week or so. they are rock fish, so you probably wont see him a ton. I have heard of RG's that love the open water so hopefully you got one of them. As far as a name... I dont name my fish....;)

I have had him for about 4 days...so I guess it is perfectly normal for them to hide. I hope he turns into one of the "open water" RG's cause it really is a nice-looking fish!

    Mirosh,
I just bought a Royal (Fred) and he did the same thing for the frist couple of days. When i first put him in the tank my Coral Beauty went to say high and Fred tried to show him who was boss. But since then Fred is out all the time. Just give him space, it takes time for little guys like that.

Yeah, thats pretty good that he was the fish of the month...i remember seeing that at one point, but lost track of it!

After coming home from work today, I noticed that he was out a bit more...seems to be getting used to the surroundings already! I like him a lot!

I just got one yesterday and he has been in hiding. I see his head poking out of the rockwork to keep an eye on things and every few minutes he'll come out and swim around for a few secs, staying close to his home. I've read that this is normal. I really hope he likes the open water as well. What's the point in a fish you never see.

Give 'em time guys, when they find a spot to call home they will start venturing out more and more. My guy did that at first but now is out almost as much as my Chromis.

Basslets love to hide and stare at you from their little spots but they will definately come out and start begging when it's food time!!!

I have had mine for like 6 months now and it digs in the sand to make new hiding spots all over my tank, but deff comes out at feeding time. It used to be very territorial at my damsel but then I moved them both to my 75gal and they get along fine.
