you can get xbox live prepaid 12 month cards for around $30 online, they go onsale frequently for that amount. I just keep renewing mine through the cards so I don't have to pay the $50 normal rate.

newegg currently has the 12month card at $35 not too bad: Newegg.com - Microsoft XBOX Live 12 Month Subscription

Be careful buying used Xbox 360's. When someone gets banned from xbox live (for any number of terms of service violations), the actual console, not just the account, gets banned.

So, if you get one that was banned, you'll have no way to use it on-line.

If I don't care about on line usage, it will still play games just fine, right?

I am looking at this to cheaply get a xbox360. If money were no object, I would buy a new one. If I can fix it for cheap, I will be happy. But on the other hand, if it is not fixable in any way, it is junk.

It is used, no idea how old it is, and it was bought second hand by the guy selling it. The guy says he never opened it up, bu that the seal was broken before he bought it, and it worked until a few days ago then got the RROD.

If i knew the guy, this would be less of an issue, but is CL, and you know how that goes.

Is there a way to determine the date of manucature or if it is a banned unit? I assume there is a serial # on it and i could call microsoft to find out, right.

Yeah, you could try and verify the serial number with Microsoft.

You need to log into X-Box live to update the system software, and to install updates for games. If you don't care about that, then it's not an issue.

Yeah, CL is such a treat to deal with. Buyer beware. LOL

After having two Xbox 360's break on me I found the easiest fix was to get a PS3. Works like a charm. :)

Yeah, make sure you reformat the HD before you take the console on-line. If there is anything on it associated with a banned account, it will get your console banned as well.

I'm not sure what Microsoft uses to "tag" a banned console. Whether it is the SN, or the MAC address of the NIC.

I used to be more informed on this stuff before my tank started to suck up all my free time. LOL

Agreed completely. Spies is way more legit of an American rider than Edwards and Hayden. Until Hayden can stop whining about equipment, I'll give him more respect. He only won his championship on account of Rossi's technical issues. I don't consider a champion the guy who finishes third the most consitantly. I loved Edwards in the Isle of Mann TT. Ever since then I've been dreaming of him to do well, and I think he's doing the best of his ability.
