Hello from afghanistan everyone!!! As some of you might know I am deployed here and yes I am still thinking about reefing lol. I have been looking into upgrading when I get home and I was wanting to get some opinions on the RSM 250? i have been doing some research and found a lot of good feed back and some negative. Would it be a good buy? What should I add to the system if I do get it that could improve it?

I recently (a year ago) got interested in salt. I did a lot of all-in-one system research and everyone I talked to told me I would need a chiller with the RSM. That was the reason I decided against it. If you have the space and funds for a chiller, go for it, because everything else I heard says that Red Sea makes a great product.

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY... Thank you for your service and sacrifice to our great country!

My RSM 250 has been running for a year and I still like it. I did have to buy a chiller in the summer and I have also replaced the skimmer. I have performed the tank maintenance the manufacturer suggests and I have not had to replace anything else.

I only replaced the skimmer because I was getting frustrated with the original skimmer being so sensitive to changes in the water level. Honestly the skimmer I replaced it with is just as sensitive and frustrating, but it pulls more skimmate. I would have probably been fine with the original skimmer.

It is a good product and I recommend it if it is truly what you want. All that being said, I would not buy an all in one tank again. I bought this one because I wanted to learn about the hobby without making a ton of mistakes building a system. I think it is great for a beginner or someone who just doesn't have the time or resources to build a system. If you think you want a system to customize, this is not the one for you.

Good point about buying an AIO. I bought my JBJ for the exact reasons that you mentioned, I did not want to worry about making mistakes on my first SW tank. I'll run this for about 2 years and then my plan is larger display tank that I build myself.
