Well I just got back home from work and found my Rose Millepora coral to have suffered about 75% loss to RTN. It was fine last night, and I didn't do anything out of the ordinary. The only thing I think it could be is the tank temperature went up to about 84F because of the heat outside. Everything else seems fine though. I just fragged what was left, so I have two very small frags, hopefully at least one will survive. Oh well, I guess this stuff just happens sometimes.

My tank is sitting at 86 at the moment... Haven't had any RTN but crossing my fingers... Temp spikes short term aren't as fatal as many think... more corals will bleach faster more frequently with temp drops.

Most believe RTN is caused by bacteria, which though spreads faster at higher temps.

    Good luck!

my tank peaks out at 84 every day and my monti cap frag is growing great, did you get a pic of how bad the alleged RTN was before you fragged your monti?

My personal experience with RTN is some times you'll never know why. You did the right thing in Fragging it. Hope the frag makes it

I wasn't even sure it was the temp, but I believe what Jason said, sometimes it just happens for no apparent reason.

Well the frags didn't make it either, I don't know if they were just doomed to begin with or the pieces I cut had already started to RTN. Guess I will need to replace it.
