    I have a 6 or 8 gallon rubbermaid bin that would be perfect to use as my refugium. Is is safe to plum into the system or would it leach harmful chemicals?

    I use a rubbermaid container for my sump and so far no issues.

    I've not used one for a sump, but utilize two for water changes, and have seen more than a few pics of those who use them as sumps. I think they're safe enough. You should be fine.
