running gfo and skimmer overkill?

    i wana know if running both a GFO reactor and skimmer is over kill, ik in the end they do somewhat the same job.

    They actually do pretty different jobs. Granular ferric oxide removes PO4 exclusively and skimming removes a wide range of dissolved organic compounds. I run them both.

    also what type of GFO does everyone recommend i was going to wait till someone did another BRS group buy and stock up on theirs

    I have looked at that, but don't have any feedback for you. I have 2 Two little fishies phosban reactors chained in series. They are on sale now for 39.95 at Marine Depot. I.E. Pump from sump, to first reactor, then to second reactor, then back to sump (Closed Loop) I love the versatility. I can run Carbon, Phosban, whatever. Easy to service, just shut the included valve off. Remove them (Mine are hanging on the outside of the sump). Change the media, then replace, and I put a bucket under the return hose until the dust clears, then put the hose back in the sump. I never even need to power down the pump.

    im working with limited space, im getting ready to buy a reefangel to try and free up some of the octopuss cables i have lol
