Has anyone tried running high magnesium levels to combat hair algae? If so did it work, and were there any consequences such as calcium,ph,alk etc?

Typically people run high mag 1600ppm to fight BRYOPSIS which is technically different than the hair algae you are most likely fighting. Search bryopsis and see if thats what you have.
Hair algae is usually best removed via manual plucking, cutting to a short enough length that snails can eat it or with the addition of a zebrasoma tang.
As far as the Mg is concerned the people that I have seen do it have NOT had issue with the elevated levels but I personally would do it as a last resort.
What are your NO3 and PO4 levels? How often do you change water? How big is the tank?

It might be easiest/safest to go about this without taking any key levels out of whack!

    Happy cleaning!!

It's hair algae for sure,I have been removing it manualy even as far as removing the live rock and scrubbing it with a toothbrush in buckets of saltwater.I'm running a phosphate reactor with phosban, have reduced photoperiod, have new bulbs, reduced feeding and have a large refugium full of chatoe. So I am running out of ideas, the tank is a 125 dual corner flo's with a 30 gallon sump with an asm g-2 skimmer and a separate 20 gallon fuge running on a reverse light cycle. The snails won't touch it and my very large purple tang won't either.any ideas?

High calcium ,high carbonates , High K value bulbs and low water temps also lots of actinic is hair algaes worse enemy ..This tends to burn it out
