Depends on what metals it's made of. Some people actually dose nails, lol. The rust lowers N and P, but you really need oldschool Iron nails... Basically a way less effective form of GFO (granular ferric oxide) This method is also used to help with growth on algae scrubbers as iron promotes there growth. Chances are, that plane isn't made of iron though...

ok heres a few pics of the tank. you can see the plane rusting atound the seems and the "bullet" holes that i drilled for visual effect. Also you can see the powerhead looks a little brown from the algae catching the particles of rust or iron. My fish eel and shrimp are doing fine, it just looks like i need a bunch of snails to clean up diatoms. I may just pull it and do a plastic model with the same effects. Im just really uneasy about it now.... hah. anymore advice or suggestions are welcome

I do like the look but honestly....that doesn't look like rust on the PH at all. It just looks like general tank crud - a little film of detritus and algae.

Can you take a picture of the red skimmate? And maybe you can put a clear epoxy over the way the plane is now and maintain that rusty look cuz it makes it look quite authentic lol.

yeah, ill take some pics today if its really nasty in the skimmer! and yeah i also thought of pulling it and spraying it clear the way it looks now for the rust look. Im sure it will still slowly rust though, which might not bother me as bad if its slow and "controlled"....

This is what I was going to say.

Be that as it may, I don't think I'd risk my live stock over an unknown. I like to leave as few things to chance as I can and, as any casino I have visited will tell you, I am pretty unlucky.
