Whether it's harmful or not will depend on the purity and composition of the metal. There is probably no way to tell without fish dying, but I wouldn't risk it. Plastic model would be safer. GFO is very pure, but not all metals are. Also, as others mentioned, GFO is confined to the reactor.

just did a check on the tank and the skimmer wasnt too bad. i also found my coral shrimps skeleton on some rock which scared the crap outta me till i realized he was sitting behind some other rocks, he had molted and my fish are chipper so i guess everything is all good as far as my livestock is concered. Ill clean out the canister thursday and throw some new carbon in the media baskets as well as some new water.

Fishfinder, can you post some of the pics of the plane you put in and tell us about it?!!!! :)

Exactly. Most die-cast metal models are made of cheap alloys. God only knows what's dissolving into the water...

    Rust clean up...

so i got hitched last friday the 2nd and then headed off to riviera maya mexico! Among the badass stuff we did on the honeymoon, excursions and what not, I had to take a discovery stroll and snorkel off the reef rock on the beach at the resort! It was awesome!! first 30 minutes i was there i caught a chain eel! wish i could have brought it back!! hah. needless to say i couldnt help but gather as many snails, crabs and brittle stars as i could that would fit into a water bottle as well as a couple of rocks covered in algea, sand and a couple of sea fans in the water detachted for the storm. Got them all home safe and decided to remove the plane, the rust thing was just bothering me too much plus it made a mess in my canister filter.

anyway, everything is fine in the tank, just wondering if there are any specific additives that i need to put in the tank that are safe to help clean it up from the rust... Thanks!
