hey all, I know this must be here but I've not found a header that's directed me to what I think I have going on.

Brand new to the hobby, tank is in cycle I went away for work for a couple of days and came home to rust colored circles on top of my sand. I assume it's an algae bloom of some type.

    Question 1, what type

    Question 2, how to terminate

    they are almost certainly diatoms
and they will use all the silicates up in your new tank and then they will fade and go away

    no special treatment required

    great, thanks fellas.

I'm trying to educate myself as I go and I thought I had done a lot of reading prior to buying the tank because I didn't want to go into it flat footed but wow these tanks have a lot going on.
