Rusty Algae Magnent

So, I decide to clean my glass today. After I finished and took my magnetic algae glass cleaner out I noticed that it was rusting in the corner under the padding... How much harm have I done by introducing rust to my system ?

 

Hey! No worries! Just do an ordinary water change! Rust is mainly made of ferric (III) oxide that isn't very toxic!

 

Okay, thats a well welcomed relief!

Any recommendations on a new algae magnet, one that won't rust? It's disappointing too, I've only had this one for a few months at best :-/. Never seen one rust until now, was a shock, a scary one at that.

 

What kind were you using? Could still be covered under the manufacturor's warranty?

I like Hammerhead and Magnavore magnets myself

 

The logo on it says "Marina,"

I just noticed that there is a rust stain where it was on the glass, it's no bigger then maybe a nickel or penny but it's like permanently stained on the glass... how bad is that?

Sigh, this has ruined my day :-/

 

Just get a razor blade and see if you can scrape the rust off (assuming you don't have an acrylic tank). Never heard of that brand of Magnet but I tend to stick with what works best for me so I don't shop around much

 

I'll give it a try, will post the outcome soon.
