Oh good. You are correct, Travis is a good friend of mine. Lives like 15 minutes away :)

Probably a good move on the height. I might even go a bit higher though, last I checked Travis had his @ 16" and stuff was still getting bleached to a small degree. That is on a 75g however, so I am not sure the spread difference on a 90.

JB, did you recently switch to ATIs? Its funny how, when you look at the same tank every day, minor changes go unnoticed for so long until you look back and realize the big difference.

I thought my corals were doing better too, only after a few weeks did I start noticing adverse effects, and a few months until I suspected it might be the light.

I noticed we have the same light fixture.

Any how, The bulbs have been running for 20 days now. What combo of bulbs are your running? I have not noticed any changes in the corals, may candy canes are doing great all of my SPS have full polyp extension, and i am seeing new growth. I have one SPS that is about 3 inches from the top of the tank and it is doing great. I will post a few pictures in a bit. What are your parameters like?

I am already seeing a little more PE, albeit, not much, but more than before.

    Front
    Purple +
    Blue +
    Aquablue special
    Blue +
    aquablue special
    aquablue special
    Back

My parameters are steady and have been for months. Like I've stated, I've chased after everything.

I've read many threads on this forum and others of people not realizing how powerful these bulbs/fixtures are, and cooking their corals.

How long is your photoperiod? It is interesting that we have so many different results across many reefers.

I've also thought about stopping the vodka dosing, as it might be stripping the water of nutrients. I might try this in a week or so... I want to see what happens with my current adjustments first.

Just give the lighting time at the new height. You will see changes over the next couple of weeks for sure. If your params are good and steady, its gotta be the lights. You will see color and PE come back for sure.

Ok the only thing I can suggest is your have 1 to many aquablue specials, and you are getting to much light with it. I am running front to back:aquabule sp, blue+, purple+, blue+,aquablue sp, Blue+. This is the only thing I can think of. It is the only difference between us. The first picture shows how close the 2 corals are to the top of the tank. Hope this helps, i will keep you posted on the next few weeks.
My lights are on sunrise/sunset 2 hours, all lights are on for 6. for a total of 8 hours

Thanks. I'm going to use the (formerly) green Milli as the baseline for the recovery. I'm already seeing tips of polyps starting to extend during the day... not much, but better than before (a bare stick).

Over the weekend I changed out my overflow to a Herbie.... WOW! So quiet! I was sitting on my couch last night, and seriously, my 5 gal freshwater Fluval Edge was louder than the 90g. And no microbubbles! (it is touchy though!)

I also had a longer photoperiod than you. 6 hrs daylight was about as short as I ever got, mostly around 8-10 hrs, with 2 hrs dawn/dusk as well. Kept reading that corals cant get too much light, that 12 hrs is fine, heck, they're under the SUN in nature for 12+ hrs, and thats more light than our fixtures.... right

From the drain, unless I put a filter sock on it. My sump is relatively small and limited in space, hence, not properly designed. I'd love to redo it, but I'm not that motivated, and this seemed to solve the problem.

Now I have another problem. A new add, one of the three yellowtail chromis I added, has started to divebomb the clam. I have no idea why, and suprises me since he's a chromis, but I will be keeping an eye on him.
