What kind of DSLR do you have? I have a D90 (Nikon), so it might not apply to your case, but here it goes:
Set the Aperture Priority mode (or manual). Aim at the sand so the most part in the frame is white (or you can sink something white in the tank and aim), shoot a few. Im sure they look blueish first. Now tweak the white balance. There are some preset white balance modes (Florescent, Outside, Shade Mode and so on), if you can find the setting that shows the white as white, thats the setting you wanna use. My setting is "Custom Kelvin" and its set to "8330K." This shows the white as white under my lighting. This way, you can get rid of the blueness from the pictures.

    I hope this helps.

Oh almost forgot, how much dry rock do you think you've put in the tank at the moment? Im trying to figure out how much rock I need to add in order to have enough for my upgrade (29 to 90).

    Now post some pics! :)

Wow, thanks for the pic taking advice. Will definitely try this on my next batch of pics... speaking of, I just finished glueing 7 new frags onto the rocks... guess it's time to pull out the camera. ;D

I have about 65 pounds of (former) dry rock, and that's it. I'm not fond of the "rock wall" look, and I've been told that after absorbing water and such, it'll equate to about 100lbs or so of live rock. So I guess go with 2/3 the weight of live rock if you order dry. It's been working fine for me so far, and I have a decent bio-load. :p

    ^^ sure thing.
And thanks for the idea of dry/wet rock ratio (?). I think I have enough at the moment, now I need to find a local glass company (for the sump and overflow box).

    Update:

    - I promise photos tonight. Time has been a premium in my life lately.

    - Bryopsis is gone. Raised Mg to 1600 over a few days and it dissolved within 2 days. Amazing.

    - Carbon dosing. I started vodka dosing a few weeks ago, and I'm up to 2ml daily (1ml in the am, 1ml in the pm). The hair algea on the rockwork has receded (not gone yet), and I'm seeing more spots of purple coraline algea pop up. The skimmer is pulling out much more black/brown junk.

    - Added a few plating montis, an encrusing monti, green slimer, blue zoas, and orange ric shroom. The wife is begging for a bubble coral, but I'm just concerned my overall flow is too high for it... we'll see. ;-)

    - I was researching sea stars the other day when my wife notice, and said "WE can HAVE a sea star?!?!?!". After a little more research, we headed to the LFS to see what they had. Ended up with an orange sea star, I dont think it's a linckia, might be a tamaria... poeple can help with the ID when I get pics up tonight.

I love the orange sea star. I already had that on my stocking list for my 75g. The tank is looking really good. It gets better every time I've seen it thus far. Nice selection of corals(what was the retail name of the plating monti?) and fish too. The carberryi anthias are my favorite. The hippo is pretty cool as well.

This is what im talking about! Nice pics! I like the side shot!
Try to hold the camera still, lean against the wall, use the back of the chair, etc. Nonetheless, looking GOODDD

    Thanks all, glad you enjoy.

After reading through this thread, I realize how little I knew when I first started, even after months of research... lol.

I'm not sure about the retail names, forum member Travis45 was kind enough to frag them for me and give me a very reasonable price. He was looking to trim some of the growth from his beautiful tank.

I was lucky on the orange sea star, the LFS just happened to have this guy hanging on the side of their coral DT, and he's very healthy. Been moving around alot too.

The best way to stock a tank, IMO, is research and a plan. Everyone is very happy together, no stress, and no ich!

I have a tripod, I'm just to lazy to use it. One of these weekends I'm going to get the white balance right, and take some good shots.
