Bleh so the family and I went off to missouri for the holidays and I left a friend to tend to the house and tanks well come to find out my visatherm heater from marineland failed and killed my three firefish and maybe some of my corals. Hopefully the corals survived the 55 degree water but I have my doubts but thankfully the Christmas wrasse and clown survived. I don't get back home till the second but I still worry about the tank

Sorry to hear that. I had that happen to a LPS-dominated nano tank I had running last year, with a Marineland Stealth heater. Not much survived. Definitely best to use two smaller heaters for redundancy and stick with the better brands such as Ehiem-Jager. This hobby definitely teaches Murphy's law and humility well. Picking up the pieces and moving on is just part of the hobby I think though...

Well my friend know plenty about the hobby but it's more he works and has kids to tend to so he can't be there everyday. It happens and at least he has spare heaters he's going to use so it wot stay cold

Hurray cold induced comma! One of the firefish appears to have survived! I assume he wasn't quite dead just his heartbeat was very slow and thus mimicking dead!

So after getting back home and seeing my tank missing two fish and all my corals well they weren't missing but I'm sure their dead as could be. I figure ill leave the skeletons there for a month or more and see if any come back from their deep freeze. I know now I need to scrub some rocks, pluck some hair algae, and get this tank back in ship shape. I only wished the semi crash happened to the fresh water not my marine....

Good news! The Christmas wrasse, clown, and one fire-fish made it out alive! Personally I'm just happy the clown and the wrasse didn't kick i like them the most. Either way this makes room for some corrections, a new heater, a nasty phone call to foster and smith and Marineland about some lost items due to the replacement heater failing worse then the recalled heater it replaced. Next heater is likely going to be a Jager, or an azoo titanium heater.

I run these heaters in my biocubes: ViaAqua Tiitanium 100 watt Heater So far, I've been really happy with them. The only problem I had was when my 2.5 year old turned the temp up to 90 degrees one day. My fish were in a sauna for part of the day.
