I have had a Aggressive 55G set up for about 2 months (a little under) and I just got a sweet deal on a 70G that I want to move my 55G into...question is, is the sand safe to move over since its cycled? I know with older systems you shouldn't re-use sand, but being only 2 months old I'm HOPING consensus will say its ok! :::Sigh::: I sure would hate to waste all this sand i JUST bought! I need someone with more experience in the hobby's advice here :) (I also have a successful 1yr 2month old 125gallon reef, so i'm not completely new to this thing, but I've never moved a tank completely to another tank)

I wanna move everything ASAP so please, any input is greatful!

I have never done this... but just thinking about it... if you get everything out before you start scooping and if you let it completely settle before adding everything in (like in just 3 inches of water)... being only 2 months old... I bet it would work.

having said that, I would still just buy a new 50 pound bag and not even risk it. sand is not terribly expensive...

You can move the sand. You may have a spike but I wouldnt think it would be too bad seeing as the sand is only a couple months old.

You most likely will cycle. As for reference, check out pharmrjohn's 90 gallon thread. He did a tank upgrade and moved the sand over careful as could be and still suffered a 3 month cycle, and lost quite a bit of livestock in the process.
It would be much safer to either just get new, dry sand, or thoroughly wash and rinse the existing sand before transfer. You still may suffer a small cycle, but it won't be nearly as dramatic as trying to transfer an existing sand bed.

Where do u get sand for a 70G for $20-30?...lol I wish LS was that cheap! but for a 3" bed in a 70g its gonna be a pretty penny...but i dont think i wanna risk it. I just have a lionfish and a valentini puffer in there right now..but i dont wanna hurt them

Do NOT use live sand in a transfer. There will be massive die off and a big cycle. Use dry sand.
