What are you using to measure the salinity? If you're using a hydrometer, you may or may not be getting some error in your measurements, they're not known to be highly reliable (from what I've read). A refractometer will give a much more accurate measurement.

yup I am using a refractometer! i went to a vocational school to be a machinist and worked with tolerances of plus and minus .0005 of an inch so i am ocd about accuracy lol... I do need to get an accurate test kit tho, i got some cheap multi strips form the lfs to give me a rough idea where i am in the cycle but any suggestions in a multi kit, i really don't want to buy them all separate if i don't have to!

Ok so have some updates! I just order a fluval 205 canister filter. Now from what i read i don't have to have this but i need a return pump for my chiller so i figured spend a little extra and get a return pump and a filter even if i just run like filter floss to get crap out of the water. Also i got 2 nano 240 power heads on order. the 750's I have are huge and look like crap in the tank and way to powerful (even on a alternating timer) and are blowing sand everywhere regardless of how i point them! so those are going to be fro sale real soon!

Well Is a Week old today!!! got some goodies too, i got the surface skimmer box for the aquaC and so far I really like it as it hides the pump and will take the crap off the surface that has been bugging me! I also got 3 nice pieces of flat base rock and re aquascaped a little (pics to come once it clears up) I did a little mod to the light the 4 leds were serious overkill at night so i took some electrical tape and covered 2 of them and it tamed it down a lot! The girlfriend also got me a magnet cleaner so the inside glass is looking good.

How do you all clean the out side i was thinking of putting some windex on a paper towel as i am afraid to spray the glass and getting some in.. does that sound good or is there a better way?

Is the red one lava rock? I though we weren't supposed to use that because it leaches iron into the system?

I didn't know that, I got it from friend that was breaking down a tank... did some research and it is lava rock... Pulled it out last night! thanks for the heads up although my girl friend wasn't too happy as she thought it was "pretty" lol
