My sailfin tang who is typically the first out of hiding in the morning for breakfast was nowhere to be seen this am until I looked behind a rock and he was just chilling on the sand picking at the sand... His breathing seemed alittle heavy but not awful. Thoughts?

I don't know I stopped back by the house and he looked pretty bad. His mouth was to the sand and his tail in the air and he kept kind of waving in the current. Not sure what happened he was extremely active last night. I've been soaking their food in garlic every other day. Don't know however very disappointing...

Your last fish that died, are you sure it was ich, or could it have been velvet? Heavy breathing and a quick decline are symptoms.

Different tank. However his was over def overnight. I wonder if he got stung by my condy... Don't know however he was dead when I got home. His stripes were all gone when I found him. He was just dark all over which is different than this morning. He had no visible sign of disease this morning... Other than breathing I suppose.

how long have you had him? have there been any changes to the tank lately. anything that could have lessened the amount of oxygen?

Actually I hadn't added anything to that tank until this morning (coral purchases from Aqua SD which arrived perfectly!!) And the tank has a sump that I converted to a fuge which I would assume would add a reasonable amount of oxygen to the water. Double checked the ph which was at 8.3 and the salinity was at 1.023. 0 ammonia, nitrates and nitrites...(On test strip, ill use test tubes tonight.) Other fish seem very content.

high flow is what adds air to the water, a tang must have high flow, lots of current they will not do well with a little flow in the long run, at night when the lights go out the oxygen drops and tanks will suffer if there isnn't enough flow.

Koralia 750, sump/fuge powerhead and since I only use the "sump" as a fuge I have a fluval 405 also with a powerhead. Should be plenty of flow. Should I supplement some algae for tang diet? He had been in the tank for about just shy of two weeks. **i had written a much longer post but tapatalk didn't end up posting it...**
