So I had a new Sail fin in my 55 quarantine tank.
After a week, I'm getting ready to add it to the 300. First things first, I had about 75lbs of LR in the 55 that I wanted to move to the 300's sump before catching him. While moving the rocks, I accidentally knocked a screen off the bulkhead inlet to the 55's sump. This took around 10 to 15 minutes or so. I went back to catch the Sail fin and he is no where to be found. WTF? I figured he was hiding under one of the remaining rocks or jumped. Then I notice the water level in the sump is low and the tank is still high after pulling the rocks. Uh Oh. :-/ Yep, some how he swam in and got himself wedged in the elbow and FUBARed. By the time I lowered the water and disassembled the bulkhead he was a goner. ::) I don't know who is dumber, me or the fish.
So my $18 PetCo special is flushed. :(

    Oh well...

Cause no one in their right mind would call you dumb. lol
You said "Oh well.." but I know how you feel, you really wanted that fish to survive. Karma for your loss.

I lost one of those $18 sailfins from petco as well. I had him for about 6 months when the yellow tang decided to kill him. Why he didn't take him out when I first put him in the tank instead of waiting six months I'll never know. I was bummed out as well. I don't think I'll be mixing tangs from now on. "Sigh" it had to be the pretty fish didn't it:(

Yeah, he had nice colors. Very bold lines for a sailfin. That is why I couldn't pass him up. The $18 one was much better than the $50 from the local retail shop.

I'm surprised a Yeller went after a Sailfin. They have similar shapes, but the colors ar so different.

They fought a little when I first put them in the tank but calmed down after that. Then about two weeks ago I noticed the yellow just wearing him out. I was able to get the sailfin out of the tank but by that time it was too late for him.:(
