    Hi Guys,

I have been using mostly API to do my testing, but I needed a refill and decided totry the Salifert for a few tests. I bought the calcium and alkalinity Salifert test kit. I have a question and testing for calcium. The directions say to add a drop of the solution to the vial until it turns clear blue. What exactly do they mean by that? I am hoping someone that uses this kit can help. Thanks!!!

    Regards,

They mean just add one drop at a time so your reading on the syringe is accurate.Ive found I can add more at first until Im getting close to where the color change will happen, once you have used it a few times you will be able to tell. The color does change from pink to blue instantly when you reach this point, not gradually.I have both Salifert and API kitsand my readings differ a lot between the two.I get 520ppm with API, and 400ppm with Salifert, not sure which is right but Im guessing Salifert.

Thanks for the reply!!! I have been using the Salifert magnesium test and was familiar with the syringe, but was unclear about the term "clear blue". I never got a blue that was unclear. I am also glad that I am not the only one that is getting different results between Salifert and API. I thought it was user error. My API said my calcium was 500 ppm and the Salifert was saying 400 ppm. Thanks again!!!
