I guess I have been over doing it on my water changes. Just did one and its reading at 1.029. Is that a serious problem?

I don't know how much of a problem it is but from what i understand you can decrease salinity quickly but increase it slowly. I would pull water out and top off with fresh until you get it back down a bit.

Over time yes. You'll notice corals changing color as my red monti colony actually started to turn grey. I wasn't properly calibrating my refractometor and my reef was at 1.28-29 for a month. I'm sure it wasn't great for my fish either. 1.25-26 is where you want to be or atleast that works the best for me

    +1 to ^^^ - 1.026 is optimum.

As mentioned, drop it slowly over a few days by removing a small amount of water and replacing it with fresh.

Decreasing salinity must be done slowly as well .001 a day is as fast as I would go.

Decreasing salinity can be done rather quickly compared to increasing it.

Just last week I discovered my tank was at 42.5 ppt. that is 1.032. I lost my elegance as it was this high for qhite some time without me knowing it. I had calibrated my equipment with some not so stellar solution.

Todd. for $7 I ordered a new bottle from amazon. Very glad I did cause I was scratching my head like a mad fool. all my other params were PERFECT... and I had unhappy corals. makes me think it was this way on my old tank which led to me losing ALL my sps..... this has taken me a year now to start to question the salinity.
