i was told and have been running my salinity at 1.023. but ive been seeing people running a touch higher at 1.024. is that better for corals and fish. are there any necessary pros and cons to this small increase? reason im asking im making some water and would slowly start to raise mine to 024 if is was better. thnx all.

I believe 1.026 is better for coral.

    Hi Divott
1.023 is not terrible and many keep it at that level

1.025 - 1.026 - Natural Saltwater levels are what I aim for - your skimmer will work better also
dont raise it by more than 1 part per day - so it should take you 2 or 3 days to raise if you decide to raise

i would assume the higher salinity is better for corals, since the water is richer in minerals. the ocean varies quite a bit depending upon location and season. 1.025-6 is the average. if you set up a red sea tank i think 1.028 would be a good salinity(since the persian gulf and red sea can have salinities up to 1.03).
anyway i guess im saying it doesn't matter to much as long as your salinity is between 1.02-1.03 you animals will be fine(provided they where aclimmated to anychange in salinity)
