it depends on what you are keeping in your tank, fish only tank don't mind a lower level of 1.020- 1.023. inverts and coral like higher around 1.023-1.026. just remember the higher in salinity you go the lower your dissolved oxygen levels will be.

the amount of dissolved oxygen is proportional to how many fish you can keep in your tank.
ie. The more dissolved oxygen = more fish you can have.

no. saturated is saturated. it means that part of the equation of how much fish you can have is directly related to your SG. (as well as a ton of other things).

There are other things too though that help with Oxygen - like surface area. The more you have the higher you can keep your O (as gas exchange is happening on the surface). More surface area, more gas exchange going on.

But, to the OP, it depends entirely on what you are keeping. I keep mine at 1.026. Any lower and i have trouble maintaining my Mg levels (and in turn have trouble with Ca levels). I care bc I have corals that need these...

I keep mine at 1.028. Whether it be fish only or a reef I would recommend 1.026-1.029. Natural reefs average about 1.028-1.030 and I like to mimic that.
