I just got home from work and realized some bad news, my beloved sally crab has died! I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if high salinity levels could have caused this?

I moved my tank last Sunday and had a friend of mine help me who had done it before. When making new water in the 32 gallon garbage can he dumped the remaining salt in resulting in very high salt levels. The salinity is so high my arm is itchy after sticking it in there! I'm going to test my nitrate, nitrite, ammonia, and pH right now just to be safe but I'm just worried about losing more valuable members of the fam

Most likely, inverts have a difficult time with large changes in salinity.

Always check the salinity before putting the water in the tank. Can't stress that enough. Any idea how much too high it is? Do you have a refractomer or a hydrometer to check it with?

Hydrometer. I've gotten it down to about 1.025, still not ideal I assume but after I picked out the corpse I tested it and the needle was all the way to the top!

1.025 should be fine. That's what I keep my tank at.
    Sorry for your loss!
