I am getting a sally from a fellow reefer. I also have a pistol shrimp in my sights. I was wondering if these two will clash in my tank. The pistol will be paired with a goby if that might make a difference.

I can't say from personal experience. But from what I've read, pistols are savage carnivores. If the Sally lightfoot gets too close, and if the crab isn't quite a bit larger than the shrimp, than I would expect the shrimp will have a crab dinner.

yeah and you also have to be carefull with the lightfoot cause ive had to get rid of a couple. one used to each my smaller fish and the other messed with corals. you should ask the guy your getting it from just why hes getting rid of it. after saying all this, i would like to try again cause they are beautiful specimens.

I had an experience with a different type of shrimp. Sally was chasing my cleaner shrimp for a few weeks, and then I found it perched on some LR reaching for my chromis. So after seeing these aggressive tendencies’s I put the sally into my refugium where he could eat detritus in seclusion. I've been curious about getting a pistol shrimp myself, however after seeing what happened with the sally I'd be concerned if they can be houses in an aquarium together. Maybe if it was a large tank in which they don't see each other very often?

    Just food for thought,
    Gavin

I would find a new LFS ;) Sally lightfoot's are carnivores and won't touch algae.
I wouldn't want one in my reef tank. Just a matter of time before it starts picking things off.
