If it's one or the other, skip the lobster. It will DEFINITELY eat its tankmates, whereas you're just taking a chance with the crab when it gets braver & bigger.

soustadt, it would be helpful to know which gender gets bigger (I would guess the female? Any ideas?), and pick the smaller gender out. My boyfriend got 3 mithrax crabs a while back, and he didn't know how to sex them and the guy in the store didn't care, so we ended up with 3 males LOL.

I had a SLF crab for a while and she always made me nervous with the fish. As she got bigger she got wayyyy bolder, and incredibly fast. I went on vacation for a week and sure enough when I got home my perfectly healthy clown fish had completely disappeared. No guarantee she killed it (may have just scavenged it), but still feels risky. She was a PAIN to catch too, so if you're unsure I'd avoid that trouble.

My son Alan who is 8
is only interested in the Sally Lightfoot crabs in my reef tank

he sometimes shows interest in the shrimps also and hermits amuse him
but there is something fascinating about the SL and he will sit and watch the tank for ages hoping it comes into view- ignoring everything else thats already on view

I had one, great in my tank never harmed anything, hung out with a coral banded shrimp in a cave I had at the time.

Stay away from those lobsters they are awful. I tried one, it is what killed my SL crab.
