Have had this crab for over a year now..shes a real cool cat...but she now is stalking and killing.....hermits and snails at first, but she nailed a chromie last week and has been looking at scooter:angry:
So.....I would love to get her out ...without taking out rock...wishful thinking I'm sure.
    Anyone got a plan...trap....trick....harpoooon!!

I would also say trap. Good luck Tim, they are known to be a pita to catch.

    Def the harpoon! ;D

    jk.

I would try the trap first. I tried using a trap to catch a crab... My peppermint shrimps stole the bait 3 times, and the last time I fell asleep watching the trap and woke up to 7 hermit crabs in the trap and no hitch hiker crab. I ended up pulling the rock, which wasn't too painful in my case. I ended up with a lot better aquascape afterwards.

The harpoon isn't a bad idea actually... if you know where he is you might be able to stab him with a shiv or something.

When I was trying to catch my crab I thought about putting my mantis shrimp in my reef tank, and pointing him at the hole with the crab, figuring he would be easier to catch afterwards (he goes crazy for krill which is what I was using for bait). That could become the little old lady that swallowed the fly though.

I have heard that they max out at about 4 inches ( main body )...and thats not common...but mine is like yours, about the size of a half dollor, maybe bigger.
I now need more hermits and snails...the chromie had a sore on its tail, prior to becoming sally food...but in hindsite, I would have to say she caused it?...tonite I will trap and photo results...if any...Im thinking it will be like the previous post, lots of shrimp go'n for it! : )
Thanx everyone for all the input. We learn as we go in this hobby...that is why this forum is so important...LFS are there to SELL. You must have done your homework prior to introduction of any new species....question to LFS is...do you have it or not....anything else, your gonna hear what they tell you.."no problem man" LOL
    Thanx again ya'all
