mix a batch and test it for the essentials. cal, mg, alk, etc and if you get good results you should be fine. i have switched 3x from salt brands. crystal sea - kent and now seachem. havent noticed a diff in my tank either way.

if your gonna switch salts mix a 50/50 until what you have is gone, that way it wont stress out the corals as much

I don't see any problem with changing salts.. the only thing is that trace elements might be different (i.e. non-tested elements). All salts should contain similar tested elements because they know people will test it.. if that's the best salt in the store, i would switch in a heart beat ;)

Many people say you need to mix the salt 50/50 but in my eyes that is an old wives tale.... Lets say you have a 55 gal and you do 10% w/cs well, only 5 gals of the new salt is added to the system!! In my eyes I don't see how 5 gals of a new slat mix can be detrimental to the tank. When people say to mix or you see it in literature no one ever gives a reason to WHY it stresses the tank, they just say it does! Is there any proof? How does one know the w/c itself didn't stress the inhabitants? I've switched my salt numerous times and even blend some together at times and never noticed anything, and I like heavy handed w/cs!! I'll do 1/3 a week or every other depending on time!!

To answer the question on YOUR salt, the RSCP rated very well when I tested it, just make sure you use RO/DI water but you stated you already do... Also if you have a GOOD PO4 test, test a fresh batch as there was many reports of trace PO4 in the RSCP but I believe they have rectified that by now.

I would say thank you and merry xmas to such a good sister that would drive 4 hours and buy a not so cheap bucket of salt for her bro!!

    Happy reefing!!
