I read this several months back (I don't really remember when it first came out, but it was perhaps a year or so ago).  I found it to be very enlightening, and somewhat unnerving.  Considering that we can get very few of these salts in the US, easily, that should make it troublesome for all of us.  Here is the report I am talking about:

I know a place to get some of the upper line salts, but price becomes prohibitive.  I've seen Tropic Marin in this country, just not in any LFS near me.

I would be interested in YOUR experiences.  Have any of YOU seen any of the top-line salts in LFS' in your area?  How much were they?

I hope this helps someone. [smiley=grin3.gif]
Edit: Fix stupid spelling mistake. [smiley=oops.gif]

Hey Wrassman, Aquacraft has a few things online like this (S-15 Report). Just keep in mind that the salt that they make always comes out the best in their 'studies.'

I do give them credit for bringing attention to the makeup of commercial salts though. And recently I believe Dr. Ron backed up some of their findings for what that's worth.

Can you add Oceanic to your poll? I was wondering what people thought of that brand.

Since you did not list Kent I had to go with IO.

Should ask what did you use and why did you change.

It's not as popular as Instant Ocean, but I used it for over 3 years on my old tank shown here.

No complaints at all. Mixes faster than I.O. in my experience.

(Removed your double post, FYI - just to keep things clean.)

I've used coralife in FO systems for years. Excellent salt for fish systems. I haven't really used it much for coral/invert ystems though.

Like Matt said, it mixes way quicker then IO and doesn't leave a rust colorred residue afterwords in the mixing vat.
