salt mixing question

i am mixing some saltwater for my friend. he is using instant ocean salt mix. i have never used instant ocean. the r/o water i use test out perfect. so i mixed 100gal to 2 bags of salt 50 gal each. it is in a large tub i use all the time. so after 24 hr with a 2400gph mag pump mixing the water is still cloudy and the ph is very high like 8.9 or so and the alkalinity is at 350 or higher. does anyone know wtf is going on?

 

i have had the same problem, what seems to work is more flow in the tub. also try testing the salinity, just because the bag says 50 gallons worth, doesn't mean it is exactly 50 gallons worth.

 

when i mix mine i do it in a 2 gal bucket, 1 level cup to 2 gal. of water stir, then pore it in a larger storage container for the amount i need, never had a problem with it being cloudy and always spot on 1.024 and all other levels good.

 

definitely test the salinity. It sounds like you have some super-saline solution going there. You will likely need to dilute it down with more RO/DI water. Good luck!

 

oh i did i have a refractometer. what happened is my stupid friend added lots of ca to the water when i was at work and failed to tell me!! so i got it fixed! thanks all for the reply. note to self ( lock my doors)!!!!!!!!!!
