I have two different brands of Salt......is it ok to have 2 different brands in your tank ?? I am mixing a 20 gallon batch for the next water change and want some for emergencies ....I have about 10 lbs of Instant Ocean and am currently using a different brand ??

    Thanks

i don't see why it would matter. Just make sure that you let the water sit for a while to fully dissolve and balance the parameters.

Thanks ! I was told and saw on the internet that the instant ocean contains more phosphates then the brand I switched to ....I just have about 10-15 lbs of insant ocean left over....and didn't want to waste it

Phosphates? there shouldn't be any in any of them. Where did this info come from?

Instant ocean is phosphate free because it is synthetically designed not to have any...should be no problem in mixing...just take careful measurements in salinity as sometimes the salt grains may be bigger than your previous brand of salt...you should probably use a rarefractometer over a regular hydrometer to get an accurate salinity reading
