    Hi guys,

I want to know your experiences on salt swings. Is it dangerous to have salt water swing to .05 difference?

I try to keep water salinity at 1.24 but I forgot to top off and it got to 1.29. Is this dangerous? I RO'ed it back down to 1.24 is that too fast? What are your experiences on a lethal level?

IMO, swings of any param is not good. But that swing can be tolerated. Just try to avoid any more. 1.29 is getting close to stuff dying depending on what you have. I've had a miscalculated refratcometer and got to 1.3 and stuff started struggling. But in the future, lower it slower, over days, not hours. It all kinda depends how long things were in the wrong param.

I hope that both of you mean 1.029. In my opinion, those swings are too much. If you have trouble remembering to top off by hand, I would invest in an ato. I recommend tunze.

a .005 swing can be fatal to sensitive animals. Thats a very huge swing as far as stability of the system.

If it occurs of a period of days then the animals can acclimate although some will be affected more than others and possibly die. You want to limit the change to no more than .001 per day if possible.
