What all are you putting in the tank? And it's not a good idea to dose anything that you don't test for. Many corals use up elements in the saltwater and need to be replenished by dosing(or needs more elements than just the salt supplies) ,but other corals(like a lot of softies)feed off nutrients in the water column,so it would depend on the requirements of what your keeping.I don't dose anything, but all i have are softies and one lps,and i just do water changes every 2 to 3 weeks and have good growth, but sps or clams would probably drop dead in my tank.Just depends on the requirements of your livestock.

Edit-I use instant ocean reef crystals, and WELCOME TO 3REEF!

You should not need to supplement anything for the first 6 months of your tanks life, after that never supplement anything without testing first.
In most cases regular 20% waterchanges will replenish everything you need till you have a well established tank.

Well I really don't know what kind of coral I want do you have any suggestions? My tank has been running now for about two years with fish and live rock. My setup is a 55 gallon with two t5 light fixtures adding up to 216 watts. I have a protein Skimmer on the way and a 1050 power head. I also have 2 canister filters 1 at 240 gph and the other at 360gph.

    Thank you for the help!

A good salt mix like Oceanic shouldcontain everything you need except possibly calcium, alkalinity and magnesium in a heavily stocked hard coral dominated system.
Never, ever..... did I say never, add any supplements or additives unless and only unless you have good reliable test kits for each and every ingredient in the additives no matter how miniscule the amount, use the test kits on a regular basis and know for sure the substance is in fact depleted, there is a demand for it and it is actually needed for growth.

You have no idea what all is in Essential Elements and iodine/iodide is an often misunderstood element and probably way overdosed so discontinue both immediately if not sooner. It is extremely easy to get a system out of whack and tough to get it back in line. Do regular water changes, use a good name brand salt mix as you are and set up a regular monitoring schedule if you think something is being consumed.
