I would love to get puffer fish for my 35 gallon tank but worry that it would eat my clown fish and inverts. Has anybody had any success with puffers? What kind do you recommend?

It might not eat your fish, but it might very well eat some types of coral. So unless it's a FOWLR I wouldn't recommend it. Oh, and by the way they can be TOXIC. Keep a look out.

Thanks for the info, I think that i would rather go in the direction of reefkeeping than a fish only tank.

Had a porcupine, really cool fish almost like a dog. It would come to the front of the tank when I would walk by and swim up and down in front of me. But very messy eaters, I would feed it ghost shrimp and frozen prawn and it would make a mess. Chews and spits out and sucks the food back in and spits it back put. It makes a mess of the tank really fast, got rid of so I could add corals but if it fish only they are kind of cool. You just need to keep on the tank maintenace because of all the waste from left over food and what not.

i had a little green spot and he just loved them live ghost shrimp and id throw in a crayfish here and there hed hunt them down and tear them up so puffers are not definitly critter safe. also they will crush snails they need the hard shells to file down there beak if not taken care of can grow to the point they cant eat. also with puffers you need to have a variety of food on hand they actually will get bored with what they eat if fed the same thing all the time. make sure you do your research puffers are not a good beginner fish.

I recommend that a puffer be in a large tank. Mine enjoy the swimming room. And yes, lots of different foods.

I agree they need a big tank, but I decided to make my 55G a reef tank. Thanks for the info.
