OK, so I saw something that caught my eye on saltwaterfish.com. It was a blue-spotted stingray that is only 6" in size, suitable for captivity.

It states that it is venomous and dangerous, but I was just wondering; Are these really kept in captivity? Or just like a fancy restaurant aquarium or something? What are your thoughts on this type of thing? The link is below:

Oh yeah...There are plenty of large tanks out there (1000 gallons plus) that house such creatures. Very large eels, white tip sharks, nurse sharks.....all of these can be kept in a large tank.

You know, I picture a 15,000 gallon reef tank and just expect something different than that. Sadly I was underwhelmed. Though I would like to build a tank like that some day, order most of tbsaltwater's barge o' rock, and maybe half the sand in florida. How's about a sustaining reef tank?

A blue spotted ray will get quite large, you need a custom sized tank to keep him and very large. They grow to about 3 to 4 feet diameter alone, so the tank needs to be VERY wide for it to move around. The smallest stingray that can be reasonably held in home aquariums is the California Round Spotted stingray. Even then, a tank that is at least 24" wide is needed since they grow up to 18" diameter.

I was stun in the foot by a stingray a few years ago and it was the most painful thing I have ever felt. Ever since then I have been fascinated with them! lol. When I get a monster tank I am going to keep one.
