    Readings update!

Ok, my friends, I have been testing quite a bit. I was going to do a 7 day testing, but since I've failed to test on the 7th day, I'll provide some readings from before, and some from after. I get confused is when my CA keeps getting higher. I have not dosed after the first dose to balance it when my calcium was too low. After dosing Calcium chloride from BRS, a lot of strange things happened, mostly with calcium and magnesium going up and down. Calcium keeps getting higher without me adding any. Could it be that things are just starting to settle after my CA chloride dose? Would that explain my CA going up, sometimes even against alkalinity ratio?

Let me know of any suggestions. I dosed calcium before testing began, but haven't touched the water (other than for WC'ing) since, unless specified on this table below (click on image to expand):

Again, thanks for reading and for any advice.

Looking pretty good. The only thing you need to fix at this time is the swings in sg. Your corals will really thank you for an ATO but if you can't do that at the moment get your sg to 1.025 and mark the water level of the return area in your sump with a piece of duct tape or draw a line with a black sharpie.
Stabilizing sg will correct the big swings in the other 4.
Also if you test for them at a given sg that is where your sg needs to be everytime you test otherwise you'll have the huge variance in test results like you do now.

also most salt brands put in high levels of calcium fyi. Your bag/bucket should tell you the averages as per their mixing instructions. Last but not least, these salt mixes can settle, so you might not be gettting the regular mix but a higher CA mix. Make sure to roll your salk or flip the bags a few times to try and ensure a more homogenous mixture. Dont know if that helps but its the only thing that makes alot of sense to be bud

agreed on what reef monkey said. keeping your waterlevel in your sump even will help with salinity. with both my 55g tanks im replacing 1-2 gallons of topoff water daily total for both. if i miss a day or two, my salinity shoots up.. eventually ATO with 2 5g buckets would be nice to have.

i need to ATO as well, my corals would be happier. My poor 46 was at 1.034 the other day, but nothing phases that tank

Thanks ingtar_shinowa! It does help. I did not know about mixing my salt mix. I will shake/mix the bucket every time before I make new saltwater from now on. I mix my salt so it will keep SG at 1.025. The reason for that major salinity swing at the beginning of my chart was because I replaced 5 gallons of salt water from my tank, with 5 gallons of RO water (un-salted) when trying to bring my alkalinity down from very high number. By the way, that technique works as a charm in an emergency.
Before this water change, I added 1 gallon of very salty water, in several doses through a period of 2 hours or so, then did the 5 gallon RO water change and after 1 day it still tested low. I took my time fixing this since I did not want to rush anything anymore than what I had already done.
Salinity has been stable at 1.025 for the past week!! :D

    Thanks for your advice!

PS: I do have an ATO set up. It really does help. I love how it feels to Say no to manual top offs!!
