Currently I have about 3" worth of fine sand in my DT... I want a jawfish and I know they need a larger grain of substrate... I was wondering if adding another 20lbs of larger grain to my systems, will it be enough to support a burrowing fish?

    Good day,

I have about 2 inches of Carib Sea - Seaflor Special Grade Reef Sand

    Seaflor Special Grade Reef Sand

So far....my jaw & dart fish share a common burrow under one of the rocks. The jaw fish is constantly "chewing" the sand... it is really interesting to watch...I have had the two of them for only 3 weeks...it sure looks like we are off to a good start.

You could add additional sand if you want but may just be easier to get a bunch of assorted snail shells of different sizes and place them in the tank. Once the jaw decides on where to build it's burrow it will collect the shells and use them for keeping the burrow strong plus it is fun to watch it go and collect!

I use caribsea sea-flor, though it would be easier to buy rubble or a small peice of LR and break it into small chunks for it. BTW what type of jawfish?
