sand and live rock is turning brown

    Hi guys my tank is 3 weeks old and my sand is a bit brown and live rock is also brown. The guy at the lfs say it will go away with time is that true. I use a ro unit to filter my water

    Yes those are diatoms and will go away in a few weeks.

    I am in the same boat as you. I have a 125 gallon tank with about 160 pounds of live rock. My tank is 2 weeks and the live rock & sand starting turning brown a few days ago. I have a Marineland Reef Capable LED Lighting System in the link below if that makes any difference:

    Hi,

    It's not necessary to run your lights during the cycling process. Most SW aquarium websites advise against it.

    Turn your lights off while you are cycling. You are only encouraging nasty algae to make itself at home in your tank.
