So, Im building a new sump/fuge for the 120 upgrade and I've been debating and researching the age old mud or sand question. I can see the pros and cons to each, and decided to use both.
I don't want to layer them, as I'm not sure that's the best method/ application. Finally, It came to me. My solution is to split the Refugium into two sections with a glass panel.(pics to come) I siliconed in a 4" tall panel to split the fuge, so I'm gonna put sand on one side and mud on the other. Maybe some rocks and chaeto.

Just thought I'd throw this idea out there and see what y'all thought? Crazy, revolutionary, asinine or just plain boring?

Hmm, I've never thought of splitting them up.... Neat Idea. Im interested to see how that works out for you.

I for one plan to use miracle mud in my up and coming build as the reviews are polished for sure. I may even place a DSB in the first intake chamber of the sump to keep from having to clean it.

That's a great idea! I agree with Icon. Definitely use Ecosystems Miracle Mud... The polyp extension that I experienced with it got me hooked. :)

Definitely going with miracle mud, Placing the order today.
Finally got things about up and running on the 120, been kinda crazy. But the sump looks pro, and I think the split fugue is gonna be boss! We'll see.
