Soo my tank has been up since early febuary, and my top layer of sand is building up hard flake like pieces of green algea... It looks terrible and its bunching up on the surface.. Anyone ever had a similar problem, or do you have a solution?

    Hi WTF

Do you have any sand sifters in the tank , those burrowing snails and stars can help with problems like this

    is it a DSB ?

I recently got my recommendations from reef cleaners and im looking to purchase them locally... No sand sifters yet, but I had a similar problem with an old 20 gallon that had a full cleanup crew and was about 3 years old... Its also very fine sand and not a DSB, its about 2 inches...

    Sounds good WTF

with a shallow sand bed , you can also syphon and rinse up to 1/3 of your sand at water change time IMO
