Sand Dollar

    Can you put a live sand dollar into a reef tank and where do you find a live one??? They are alive, right???:confused:

    A Sanddollar is considered to be an irregular sea urchin they injest algaes and particulate matter in the sandbed by burrowing. They like a DSB at least 4in and don't like really fine sands like muds or southdown types (it can suffocate them).

    Sand dollars are not that hardy and they are grazers that require a large area in which to find food within the benthic areas of your tank!!!! Starvation is usually the end result of keeping these interesting animals!

    Agreed.
    I seem them out here on the beach sometimes and they are always found near a pile of macro algae. I am always amazed at how fast they can move with their little feelers... I would think they would need a huge tank.

    Ahhh, I was just wondering. I've never seen one alive, usually just sitting on the edge of the shore, dried up. Never saw one in a tank either.
