Has anyone ever kept sand dollars? All they could tell me is that they behave like a urchin. Can't find any info on them. Like what kind it is, what they eat how long do they live...
    Any info would be helpful!:)
    Thanks

If they do the same thing in the tank as in the wild, it's just stay in the sand and do nothing. The sand dollars you find that are white are obviously dead. Live ones have a brownish-black top and hairs on the bottom that draw food to a central opening.

I have never seen a live one that is on top of the sand fully. The sand dollar beds at the beach house (grandma's and grandpa's back in the day----thirty or forty years ago) were found at low tide, and they were either fully buried or partially. A sand bed of two inches will do, but you will never see them.

If you get them, I would not get a lot. I would treat them like sand-sifting starfish, only a few per tank. They do grow up to about five inches in diameter.....so just be aware.......
