    Hi,

Can anyone help me out on where to get some good sand that wont harm my tank. I am in the process of setting up a reef tank, my local petshops live sand goes for $5/ LB and Carib Sea sand goes for $20 a bag (not a bid bag). Is there a specific type of sand anyone ever purchase at home depot that is reef/tank safe? I was thinking of getting about 40Lbs of reg sand and seeding it with 20 Lbs of live sand. Good idea?

    thanks

    Reef Guy,
Some Home Depots still carry the sand called Old Castle Tropical Play Sand, Its sand from the carribean that is agronite and perfect for our reefs. However I have heard that the company who mines the sand is not going to produce it anymore. It is becoming very difficult to find this sand anymore.

Aside from Old Castle I would stay away from anything else at HD, it probably will be silicate and not have the chemistry.

I personally used 45# of Old Castle Sand and 20# of Agrolive live sand in my tank.
